Spanning such a large area of central Bangkok, it’s not surprising that Sukhumvit is one of the most popular streets in the city, both for residential properties and commercial ones.
Lined the whole stretch of Sukhumvit from Phloen Chit to Bang Na are tall office blocks, condos and malls, as well as many traditional 4-5 storey townhouses that are mostly utilized as businesses. Spreading off the main Sukhumvit road each soi has its own character, some with just as much development as can be found on Sukhumvit itself, and others that offer a much more peaceful setting.
Within this network of roads that occupy the city center you’ll find all types of properties from the Bangkok’s most exclusive homes and luxury condos to affordable town houses, apartments, and whole range of commercial business suitable for registering your Thai company.
With so much going on around Sukhumvit, it’s hard to imagine that the road offers quiet areas where properties enjoy relaxing surroundings whilst still being a stones throw away from the mayhem. However as you begin to look down the sois and side streets, you’ll start to find a wide array of serene areas that really feel far removed from bustling streets.
Sukhumvit is home to several of the city’s more developed areas. Following the BTS line, which runs until Bearing at Soi 105, the lower Sukhumvit sois are located around the Phloen Chit and Nana area, then there’s Asoke Junction and Phrom Pong. The upscale streets of Thong Lor and Ekkamai are next along the line, followed by Phra Khanong and On Nut. The new section of the BTS now transports commuters to Bang Jak, Punnawithi, Udom Suk, Bang Na and Bearing. Sukhumvit actually carries much further on, through Pattaya and onto Cambodia.
Needless to say, the further away from the center of the city, and the BTS you chose to live, the cheaper the properties become. In general, the most exclusive properties can be found around the lower sois up until Ekkamai.
Being a street that’s so diverse, that you can pretty much find any type of business near to where you’re located, however in general the Nana, Asoke, Thong Lor and Ekkamai areas all have their own nightlife; shopping is mainly centered around the Terminal 21 Mall, Emporium at Phrom Pong, and Major Ekkamai, however much of lower Sukhumvit has small street market stalls lining the streets, and there’s great markets at On Nut and Phra Khanong. When it comes to food, Soi 3-7 is known for its Middle Eastern Food and Indian Food; Phrom Pong, Thong Lor and Ekkamai for their Japanese and Korean food, and all other types of cuisine can be found throughout each area.
